Lucette van den Berg
Vocalist Lucette van den Berg studied voice at Zwolle Conservatory. After her graduation Lucette furthered her studies with Cora Canne Meyer and Kevin Smith and participated in a number of international masterclasses in Yiddish song with Adrienne Cooper and Michael Alpert (Brave Old World). During a Masterclass in Weimar (Germany) she met the well-known Yiddish author and composer Beyle Schaechter-Gottesman.
Praised for her lyrical power and unique vocal quality Lucette won second prize in the 1996 Euregio Vocalists’ Competition. In addition to her work in the world music genre Lucette is also at home in the classical world having performing rolls in operas by Mozart, Puccini, Weill, Bernstein and Lortzing. As a recording artist Lucette has recorded 4 CD’s under her own name and participated as a soloist in many radio programs broadcast by e.g., WDR (Germany), KRO en AVRO (Netherlands).
Lucette has performed her Yiddish repertoire at major Yiddish and World Music festivals and in renown concert venues including The Royal Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), the Muziekcentrum (Enschede) and the Kavehoyz in New York. Lucette has been very successful with her candid and lyrical interpretations of Yiddish songs, a genre Van den Berg looks upon as her roots. In addition to her work as an artist Lucette is also the artistic director of the new Dutch festival: Jiddisch Festival in Leeuwarden.
